Suits & Gear

The "official" Key West Killer Whale swimsuits are the same as last year--the Speedo Scoubidou in black and white. We try not to change suits every year because of the expense.

If you do want to find a Speedo Scoubidou for your child, you may have to search a bit--our team store at will not have many sizes in stock. I did some searching online to find other online stores that might have this suit, and I list those stores below:

MetroSwimShop seems to have a few of ALL the girls' sizes.
SpeedoUsa has the girls' size 22.
SwimOutlet has the girls' size 24.
Amazon has the girls' sizes 26 & 32. has the girls' size 26.
SpeedoUsa has the girls' sizes 38 and 40.

Amazon has the boys' sizes 36 & 38.
Kiefer has the boys' size 28.
MetroSwimShop has the boys' sizes 24 & 26.

Sierra Trading Post intermittently has really good deals on competition suits made by Tyr, Speedo, and Dolfin. You won't find them in the kids' section--go to the adult section for swimwear (men's or women's) and limit your search to the small or extra-small sizes, which in most cases could fit older/taller kids and teens.

I can’t personally vouch for any of these shopping sites, so buyer beware. If you don’t know your child’s suit size, you could ask me or a veteran swimmer family for guidance. Race suit sizes are numbered differently than recreational suit sizes, and the different brands (Speedo, Dolfin, Tyr, etc.) have different size numbering schemes, so it can be challenging. Please remember that it’s not required to buy a team suit!

For any of your other swim needs, please consider shopping online at our team store on A percentage of all purchases at that originate through the link above will benefit the Killer Whales. It is not required that swimmers wear the official swim suit; for girls, a simple, good-quality racerback one-piece suit works well. For boys, a pair of jammers (form-fitting, end just below the knee) are recommended. Swimmers should have a couple pairs of good-quality goggles that fit well. For practices and meets alike, long-haired swimmers should wear a swim cap; long loose wet hair interferes with proper breathing technique. The Key West Club provides training accessories such as kickboards, pull buoys, etc.
